Three Good Friday Favorites

Being that it's Good Friday, I want to share some of my favorites for Good Friday! I pray they bless your heart, too!

#1 One of my favorite Good Friday stories is told by Pastor Brian Larson, of Calvary Chapel Truckee, and it always encourages me when I am going though a difficult trial.

He said an elderly lady at his church was going through something very difficult, yet she had an amazing peace and joy about her. Wondering why (had God delivered her?) Pastor Brian asked. She hadn't been delivered from her trial, but said this instead.

"The reason I have such peace and joy, despite my circumstances, is because one day the world experienced the worst day in the history of the world--the day that Jesus died on the cross. But then just three days later, the world experienced the most wonderful day in the history of the world--the day Jesus rose from the dead! So when I am going through something horrible, I give it three days, and God is always faithful to bring about a resurrection."

Now we know trials can last way longer than three days. Even this lady was still going through her own difficult trial when she said she gives it three days. However, whatever we are going through, in time, even in a matter of days we can begin to see good ways that the Lord is working in and through our situation.

Every morning we get a fresh supply of God's mercies. Lamentations 3:22-24 encourages,"Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,“Therefore I hope in Him!”'

And Psalm 68:19 declares that every day God LOADS us with benefits!

Psalm 103:2-5 lists just a few of those benefits:

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things,so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s."

As for the difficult things that remain in our life, God is working every single bit of them to our good and His glory! Not one bit of our suffering is ever wasted or for nothing. God us working every bit of it to good! I love that!

And we can rest assured, from Jeremiah 29:11, that the plans He has for us are for good and not to harm us, to give us a bright future and hope!

#2 My second Good Friday Favorite is  Greg Laurie's explanation of why Easter is one of his favorite holidays. It's a great Good Friday message! He says:

"One of my favorite holidays is Easter. Why? Because Easter truly is for everyone—the devastated, discouraged, disappointed, and doubting—the encouraged, happy, joy-filled, and hopeful. I don’t know how you might describe your life this Easter season, but I want you to know that God desperately wants to meet you where you’re at. It is through His death on the cross that, no matter your circumstance, you don’t have to fear anything—not even death.

Christ’s piercing words from the cross before He died—“It is finished!”—were not a wail of agonizing defeat; they were a victory shout! At the cross, His purpose for coming was accomplished and the way for our salvation was established."

#3 Finally, here is a great YouTube video perfect for Good Friday! It's of one of my favorite songs by Third Day, Love Song (Just to be with You). I hope you enjoy it, too!
