In
the childcare where I worked before having a child of my own, I was supervising
the kids while they played with play dough. I debated if I should even bring
the play dough out that morning since it was becoming dried out and crumbly.
Still the kids insisted, so I did.
Finally, if our time spent with the Lord and His Word is no longer a priority in our life, our clay will be dry and crumbly--little can be done with it. And what makes dry and crumbly clay fit again for the Potter’s use? Water. The Living Water of the Word rehydrates our dry spots or dried out clay, so once again we are fit for the Master’s use.
May we fully abide in Jesus (John 15), and plant ourselves in the Living Water (Psalm 1:2-3) so we will not experience spiritual dryness and limit the exciting ways God wants to use us for His great purposes. I pray that we are so hydrated with the Living Water that our clay is so soft and pliable, that the ways He can use our life would be limitless!
Because
the dough was dry and crumbly, the kids were limited in what they could do with
it. The only thing the kids really seemed to be able to make was a big crumbly
mess.
It was then that the Lord showed me that when my life isn't absolutely surrendered to Him, I just make a big crumbly mess out of things and limit the work God wants to do in my life. However, when I’m fully yielded to God and the work He wants to accomplish in my life, I become like soft, pliable play dough—making the ways God can work in me limitless.

He
is the Potter and we are the clay. Depending on how much we abide in Jesus and
His Word, will determine the ways God will be able to use us. If our
relationship with the Lord is strong, our clay in God’s hands will be soft and
pliable--a joy to mold and limitless in possibilities.
However,
if our time with the Lord and His Word is hit and miss, our clay will be like
soft play dough with dry spots--still able to be molded, but the possibilities
are limited.
