11 Ways God Takes Amazing Care Of Us

"Psalm 23 is the best loved of all the Psalms and it is the one least believed!"--Dr. Harry Ironside.

Here Ironside beautifully personalizes Psalm 23:

Since the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want...

...Rest – for He maketh me to lie down.

...Refreshment – for He leadeth me beside the still waters.

...Restoration – for He restoreth my soul.

...Guidance – for He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness.

...Confidence – for I will fear no evil.

...Companionship – for Thou art with me.

...Comfort – for Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

...Provision – for Thou preparest a table.

...Joy- for My cup runneth over.

...Anything in this life – for goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.

...Anything in eternity – for I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."

For more encouragement from Psalm 23, here are my all-time favorite books based on this Psalm.

As a shepherd, Phillip Keller shares his insights into the life and character of sheep---and of the Good Shepherd who loves and cares for them. This beloved classic will give new meaning to the ageless Shepherd Psalm, enriching your trust in and love for the Lord who watches closely over you. For an extra special treat, if you enjoy audiobooks as much as I do, iTunes sells the unabridged audiobook of this book for $14.95, read straight by the author himself. It is an audio treasure worth every cent!

Quiet Confidence for a Woman's Heart

Bestselling author Elizabeth George shows women 12 truths that will help them in every season of life.

As readers discover how David, a man of faith and failure, overcame his challenges and built his trust in God, they will uncover strength for their own journey as they embrace promises of

    * provision for all that a woman needs
    * healing of brokenness and past wounds
    * comfort for the trials
    * protection for their physical and spiritual journey
    * guidance for decisions and choices

This gem is also available from iTunes in audio form. $9.95 read also by the author herself. Elizabeth George is my absolute favorite non-fiction author. She has done an amazing job covering Psalm 23 in this book. You will be blessed!

Also by Elizabeth George, a precious childrens book to guide kids through Psalm 23--she beautifully weaves the message throughout that they are "Safe in the arms of the Good Shepherd."

God Loves His Precious Children

Every child needs someone, a person who cares,
God is that Someone, the Bible declares.
I don’t have to worry, I need never fear;
The Lord is my Shepherd––He’s always right here!

Jim and Elizabeth George, bestselling authors of God’s Wisdom for Little Boys and God’s Wisdom for Little Girls, share the comfort of Psalm 23 with children in original prose. Engaging watercolor scenes and memorable rhymes bring the truths of each verse to life and invite young ones to gather God’s promises along the way.

With each telling of this story, parents, grandparents, and anyone involved in the life of a child will be sharing the comfort and assurance God offers all His children. This is one of my favorite books that I read my little girl.

  2. This is probably my very favorite psalm (and based on Ironside's quote, I need to rethink how much I truly believe it!). Breaking down into a list the things we don't have to *want* makes me see anew how wonderful our Shepherd is to take care of all our needs.

    I also appreciate your list of resources. I'd love for you to add this post to our summer link-up at Do Not Depart if you don't mind. And I'll link to it on our Facebook page this week as well. Thanks, Brooke! Your writings always bless.

  9. My little one, 4, recites this regularly. She has a very dramatic voice: she whispers, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death," with her arms drawn in and then bellows, "I will fear no evil!" arms out flung. Understanding the Psalms that way makes perfect sense to me. We wrote about this psalm recently too. http://www.maidservantsofchrist.com/detail.asp?DetailID=247&Return=search.asp?Search=monster%20tree

    I hope you don't mind if I splash around to get to know you. This looks like a refreshing place to dip into some serious goodness.

    You splashed me with encouragement today. I would be honored if you would splash other mommas as well with this post or another fave. We gather for momma notes. I jot some on Mondays, but it's a link up whenever you can kind of link up. Just moms. Sharing our notes. Creating a melody.
